You may recognise Emily from her beautiful pink and green interiors over on @pinkhouseliving as well as her collaboration with us in the past. Well, she’s back! And this time, another eye-catching renovation, transforming her master bedroom, sitting room and family room with Alternative Flooring. We discover why Emily chose to use our carpets and rugs for her home a second time round and why they’re the best fit for her family’s lifestyle.

After living with Alternative Flooring carpets in your home, why did you trust the brand for a second carpet installation?

“Quite simply they are the most beautiful, highest quality carpets I’ve ever had the good fortune to walk/sit/lie on, and I knew there would be a style to suit every room.”

How has your design approach to your home changed as your children have gotten older, and how did the bedroom renovation reflect those changing needs?

“Now my boys are teenagers, they’re not only much bigger, but everyone needs more room. So for this renovation the focus was on creating spaces that meant we could all live our lives simultaneously without getting on top of each other. I designed my new bedroom so that I could close the door on the teen mayhem and have everything I needed – bed, sofa, bath, shower, sink, dressing area, roof terrace – right there. And we’re not planning on leaving this house for a long while so we decided it was important that everything was of the highest quality possible.”

What were you looking for when choosing a new bedroom carpet for your home?

“Luxury and foot-feel (did I just coin that word?!) were the highest priorities. I wanted a sumptuous wool carpet that felt fabulous the moment I got out of bed.”

Why was Wool Riverbed Kells the perfect wool carpet choice for your bedroom and what made it stand out compared to other options you considered?

“I loved the creamy shade of the Wool Riverbed Kells carpet, its soft, thick wool pile and the fact that it just felt so…posh! I could tell from the moment I touched the sample that it was on another level compared to other carpets. And there’s something about the texture that makes me feel like my feet are getting a lovely massage.”

“Honestly, I’ve never loved a carpet so much…apart from my Alternative Flooring stair runner…oh and the Wool Pebble rug…and actually the Wool Hygge Sisu is so perfect for the top floor…I could go on. Basically, Alternative Flooring just create carpets, rugs and runners that make me really really happy!”

Why do you think it’s so important to invest in quality carpet, rugs and runners?

“We’re on our feet nearly all the time – and even if we’re sitting down, our feet are usually touching the floor. We take the ground beneath us for granted, but when you invest in quality carpets, rugs and runners that make your feet feel fabulous, you take time to appreciate the fact that you’re standing right here, in a home you designed with love, which loves you right back.”

You’ve chosen several different wool floor coverings for different areas of your home. What initially attracted you to the Wool Riverbed Kells carpet, the Wool Tweed carpet and the Wool Pebble rug, and what have you enjoyed most about their texture, colour, comfort and durability since living with them?

“The Wool Riverbed Kells carpet was basically the most beautiful, tactile carpet I could find for my dream bedroom and it’s every bit as delicious to wake up to as I’d hoped. Then the Wool Tweed carpet is perfect as a practical-yet-luxurious carpet for the sitting room, which we use as a movie/games room, but also as a home gym – it’s such a versatile carpet to live with – dense and springy so it’s ideal for sit-ups, etc, while still soft and beautifully textured, as befits a sexy sitting room.

And the Wool Pebble rug – I honestly don’t know how we made our trapeze/family room work without it. There’s always some large teenage boy or middle-aged man lying on the floor as its pillowy wool pebbles are so very comfy, but it’s also turned out to be amazingly hard-wearing. Our exceedingly fluffy cat Coco loves to hang out in this room more than any other and unfortunately (TMI warning…) has vomited out a fair few furballs onto this rug. But they’ve cleaned up beautifully and you’d never know!”

How has the Wool Riverbed Kells carpet helped to create a more luxurious and comfortable bedroom space?

“I used to be into the whole bare-floorboards-with-a-rug style in my bedrooms, but having the Wool Riverbed Kells carpet in my new bedroom has converted me forever. There is nothing more luxurious than rolling out of bed onto this carpet, and it even makes the 6am wake-up calls more bearable! Plus the fact that it adjoins the marble tiled bathroom area, with its underfloor heating and copper bathtub, means that I get to enjoy the luxury of the contrast between the wool and marble surfaces. Honestly? My dream bedroom is now a reality, and it’s better than I had even imagined.”

Having used Alternative Flooring across multiple projects in your home, why would you recommend the brand to other homeowners?

“The range of designs, patterns, colours and textures is brilliant without being overwhelming, and the quality is second to none. I can’t imagine living in a house that has anything other than Alternative Flooring carpets, rugs and runners in it. And hopefully I’ll never have to!”
