The Alternative Blog

Binky Felstead,  known for her days on Made In Chelsea, is swapping the TV screen for interior design as she renovates her family home, filled with character and charm. We had the pleasure of working with Binky to bring an abundance of natural texture into her home with our beautiful Wool carpets, which you may have spotted on her Instagram, where she’s been documenting the entire renovation journey.

We sat down with Binky to explore her interior style, gather her renovation tips and discover why she chose wool for her home. Read on for design inspiration and a closer look at the story behind her renovation.

Wool Berber Buru Carpet – all throughout the home

How did your interior style evolve throughout the renovation process?

At the start, I wasn’t too sure on what I wanted, but I’m a country girl at heart and I’ve always loved that timeless, layered look with lots of natural textures. As the renovation went on, I actually found myself being a bit braver with colour and pattern choices. I began mixing more vintage pieces with contemporary elements, and I realised how much I love bringing warmth and personality into a space. It became less about everything matching and more about how it made me feel – cosy, relaxed, and really “lived in” in the best way.

Where do you find your décor inspiration?

I’m constantly saving things on Instagram and Pinterest, and I love flicking through interiors magazines when I get a quiet moment. But a lot of my inspiration also comes from places I visit – cosy country pubs, boutique hotels, and even friends’ homes. I love spotting something unexpected and figuring out how to recreate the feel of it in my own way.

What’s one colour you’ll always include in your home, and why?

Pink-hued shades of terracotta, there’s something so warm and grounding about them. They bring a beautiful softness to a space without feeling too sweet, and they shift beautifully in different lights throughout the day. I find them really cosy and calming, and they pair perfectly with natural textures and vintage pieces.

Why did you choose Alternative Flooring for your home?

I’d heard so many brilliant things about Alternative Flooring, not just about how beautiful their products are, but also how ethically sourced and environmentally friendly they are, which is important to me. Their carpets, runners and rugs have so much character, and I knew I wanted something that felt special underfoot. Plus, their team made the process really seamless, which is a dream with all the inevitable stresses of a big renovation!

How have you used wool in different parts of your home? Was it for texture, warmth or both?

Definitely both! Wool brings this lovely softness and depth to a room. We used it in the bedrooms and on the stairs, as I wanted something luxurious but still practical for family life. It’s amazing how much warmer and more peaceful a room feels with natural materials like wool, and it adds a bit of that cosy texture I was craving.

Did you face any challenges during the renovation, and what’s some advice you would give to those currently on the journey?

Oh, where do I begin! Renovating a home is definitely not for the faint-hearted – there have been delays, last-minute changes, and a few sleepless nights. My biggest advice is to stay flexible and try not to rush decisions. Take your time to live in the space (if you can!) before making the final touches. And always keep your end goal in mind, when it all comes together, it’s so worth it.
