The Alternative Blog

It’s that time of year again to celebrate all things wool and the beautiful fibres nature gives us.  This October, we’re shining a spotlight on our partnership with Campaign For Wool. And this year is extra special, as we celebrate 15 years since the Campaign For Wool was initiated by their Patron, HM King Charles III.

Whether in your wardrobe, lifestyle or most importantly underfoot – here’s why we love wool, and why our new, inspiring collections deserve a spot on your wishlist.

Why Wool

Wool is so much more than just a cosy carpet, rug or stair runner. It’s an organic, biodegradable and renewable resource, that’s naturally kind to the environment, blending practicality with premium quality. A sustainable alternative to synthetic carpets, wool comes from sheep that are shorn each year, providing a soft, renewable fibre, which is then spun into yarn and woven or tufted into cosy durable carpet.

When it comes to your flooring, wool offers endless options, to suit your lifestyle, taste and comfort needs. A trusted favourite for generations, there’s little wool can’t do. Thanks to its natural strength and elasticity, it bounces back like a spring, leaving you with no more worries about carpet indents, marks or possible fading. It’s a fibre that offers style, lasting durability and  endless comfort. .

Stripes, checks or florals, the beauty of this natural fibre can instantly elevate your interior, but if pattern isn’t your style there’s also a variety of intricate weaves, taking texture and warmth to the next level. It’s no secret that at Alternative Flooring we’ve long championed wool and the magic it brings into homes. Over the years, we’ve crafted sustainable carpets, rugs and runners with this wonderful fibre. Here are just a few of our favourites …

Wool Riverbed is made from undyed wool and has a heavier, firmer texture with a compact, low pile, while Wool Riverflow offers a softer, plusher feel with a slightly thicker profile. Designed for versatility, both collections are ideal for spaces such as bedrooms, living rooms, hallways, dining rooms and stairs, and work beautifully as wall-to-wall carpets, bespoke rugs, runners, or stair runners.
