Blanc Canvas

This month the FT How to Spend headlines one of its design stories ‘blanc canvas’ as it begins to tell us why white makes a return to our homes.

Vogue also spots this trend in fashion citing this season’s motto as ‘ cleanse and tone with crisp whites and clean lines’ and tells us to be inspired by

‘Erdem’s exquisite pale confections, pretty whites in precision-cut shapes bring a new purity to summer.’

White is not just pale, but now also very interesting.

 Architectural Whites

Alternative Flooring has introduced a new white chevron design to its classic Wool Iconic collection.  It’s on trend colourwise and its architectural lines follow the fashion for crisp whites, clean cuts and cutting-edge surfaces.

Wool Iconic Chevron has fine lines that run to create a continuous zigzag.  It is a design that has depth and texture, and for floors makes a subtle statement.

It is available in classic white and also contemporary natural shades.

The new chevron joins the Wool Iconic family that features a design-led herringbone, stripe and boucle and is part of Alternative Flooring’s fine wool collections.

Material Mix

Mix different materials of the same colour. Wool Pinstripe is subtle and smart, cool and contemporary. The chalky white bone shade of the carpet works beautifully with the smooth whites tiles and modern sculptural ceramics. The subtle play of light and shadow on the soft contours gives a timeless look.

Classical Whites

White and off-whites tune into the marble trend too. White is a shade rooted in classicism and marble’s abstract pattern is perfectly in tune with the times.

White doesn’t have to be smooth and shiny, it’s more about texture. In this pared-back monochromatic scheme, the plasterwork has a beautiful organic feel, creating depth and interest without overwhelming the space with pattern.

White and Black

White is also the perfect partner to black and used this way around to make a modern masterpiece. This is a contemporary look with chic off-whites, elegant steely greys and just a few touches of black.

Now is the time to be more alternative with white, experimenting with all the surprising variations of tone and, texture.

Whether you make a classic quiet statement or go contemporary cutting edge, it seems like white is a trend here to stay for longer than the summer.
